A Perfect Midday Paddle!
This quaint section is a 5 mile stretch that runs north of Healdsburg, with 2–3 hours of casual paddle time. This is a self guided trip, rated as a Class I flow, with enough current to keep you navigating and negotiating through over-hanging trees and a few sand bars. This is not our most remote trip, though a beautiful section for swimming, picnicking, fishing and enjoying an abundance of wildlife. This section of river is more calm, but still not a “float”, and there is the potential to flip or wedge your boat. Map link
How it Works:
Arrive at River’s Edge Headquarters where our friendly staff will assist you through the check in process and help to get you outfitted. Shortly after you will be shuttled 5 miles upriver, (15 min drive), where our accomplished beach staff prepare you with a safety talk, help you pack your boat, and provide paddling instruction as needed. Then you’re on your own to make your way down river at your leisure back to headquarters, where your car is.
What to Expect on River:
The Russian River is a low flow sandbar river during the summer period. The average depth is knee to waist deep with shallow sandbars and swim holes deeper than 10 feet. The upper river, where we operate, is recognized for clarity and consistent flow as well as wildlife such as: herons, egrets, turtles, osprey, various waterfowl, deer, and an occasional eagle or otter.
The Russian River is lake fed and very comfortable for swimming. There are deep pools, shallow riffles, and occasional sandbars that may cause you to briefly get out of your boat to pass through. Flipping or wedging your boat is a possibility, regardless, you will get wet! You are welcome to stop at the beaches along the way.
Canoe and Double Kayak $100
